I’m a little confused about YouTube. I see some creators with several channels and others with just a single channel. What should I do?

For some of these creators, like Jeff Geerling, have two channels that seem to cover the same topics (Jeff Geerling and Level 2 Jeff). Why? I like Jeff’s content and appreciate his insights, but I don’t understand why he has two channels that are so similar.

Another creator has a different focus for their channels. RVMiles (Jason and Abby Epperson) have different, but related themes on their channels. Their RVMiles channel covers RV industry news and RV lifestyle. Their Parkography channel shares news, updates, and stories about National Parks and public lands. In this case their channels are more distinct than Jeff’s, but they are still related.

In my case…well let’s just say I’m into a lot of things. I could be posting about a workshop project, ham radio, volunteer work, personal thoughts, productivity, 3D printing, making, and, hopefully in the future, vanlife travel. Do I really need to have a different channel for each of these topics?

Are people right about how the YouTube algorithm works, or are they just guessing? Should I post everything to my current channel and see how it goes? Should I create multiple channels?

Some of the things I talk about could cross-over between two channels? For example, a video that talks about installing a ham radio into an RV. Does that go in the ham radio channel or the travel channel? Or, do I make two edits of the video that are tailored to each channel?

Should I continue with a single channel that includes everything?

What are your thoughts?
